COUPON TIPS & INFORMATION

Hello and Welcome to the Coupon Connection! To GOD Be the GLORY for this first edition of Heavenly Homies! 1Timothy 5:8 states: “Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever”. I’m here to help you learn how to use coupons correctly and effectively to provide not only for your household, but for your church too.
This first article is going to focus on the “what, when, why, where & how” of using coupons. This is going to be your foundation and each month I will help strengthen your foundation by sharing the monthly sale cycles, different deal scenarios and also techniques & tips for shopping at specific stores. Now let’s get into coupons!
The great thing about using coupons is that anybody can use them. You need to know that coupons are like vouchers that give you a discount off of a product. You can cut your grocery bill in half by using coupons, especially on health, beauty, and cleaning supplies.
Here are a few basic tips to get you started.
■ Create a separate email address just for couponing.
■ Start acquiring your coupons from either the Sunday paper, swapping with friends and family, the grocery store, directly from the manufacturer, or printing them from a reputable online source. www.coupons.com and www.smartsource.com are good sites to start your collection of money-saving coupons. It’s cheaper to buy Sunday papers from The Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart. Be sure to check your paper for inserts before you leave the store.
■ For clipping and storing coupons, I use a 3” binder with baseball card holders, 3 pocket page protectors and labeled dividers. Baseball card holders can be found at Wal-Mart and Target at the front of the store near the registers. They can also be found at Office Max.
■ Print store coupon policies for the stores that you frequent the most and keep the policies in your binder. You may need to refer to these while in the store or at the register. Some cashiers are not familiar with the store coupon policies.
■ Learn the coupon lingo:
○ BOGO or B1G1 – Buy One Get One Free
○ ETS – Excluding Trial Size
○ OOP – Out Of Pocket
○ Q, CPN or CP – Coupon
■ Read and understand the wording on coupons: Per transaction simply means your entire cart full of items. Per purchase means each individual item in your cart that you have a coupon for.
